Avalanche Rectifiers

Vishay Semiconductors avalanche Sinterglass diodes are specially designed for high-reliability applications and are suitable for storage and operating temperatures higher than any plastic package. The combination of high reliability, reverse avalanche energy rating, and soft recovery switching behavior provides unique features for dedicated applications.

Avalanche Sinterglass diodes use a brazed construction and glass passivation to seal junctions hermetically. Only high-temperature brazing operations are used to withstand the 600°C required to melt and fuse the glass. This technique tremendously enhances mechanical strength and temperature cycling capability, increasing operating and storage temperature range while reducing thermal resistance. The avalanche Sinterglass diode will not go up in flames.

These devices lend themselves to various applications and withstand harsh environments in the automotive world. The devices meet the long-term reliability and specialized electrical performance requirements of the computer, consumer, and telecommunication markets. The small size of the avalanche Sinterglass diode, with its capacity of up to 3.5A, enables high-density board layout in electronic assemblies and equipment while increasing reliability.

Avalanche Sinterglass diodes are offered as standard, fast, and ultrafast recovery types in leaded packages up to 2400V reverse voltage.

Analog Switches and Multiplexers

Vishay offers analog switches in all major configuration types and nearly 20 surface-mount and through-hole package types. Applications include data acquisition, industrial process control, testing and measurement, and medical systems. The applications include signal switching in cell phones, set-top boxes, PDAs, media players, and video games. The devices support single- and dual-supply operation. On-resistance values range from below 1Ω to 10Ω and above. Switch configurations include SPST, SPDT, DPST, DPDT, and bus switches, while multiplexers include 2:1, 4:1, 8:1, and 16:1, and differential configurations.

The enhanced family of analog switches and multiplexers introduced by Vishay / Siliconix is designed on a high-density 18V process. The process offers an upgrade path for customers using Vishay’s current 12V series products and also enables Vishay to develop precision analog products with higher complexity for sensitive analog designs. Key improvements to device specifications include increasing operating voltage from 12V to 16V; lower leakage, reduced parasitic capacitance, and faster switching speeds; and enhanced ruggedness, with higher latch-up current and ESD protection ratings.
