Toshiba Cordless Power Tool Solutions
Various types of power tools are marketed for a wide range of applications, from household to professional use. Recently, the adoption of high-capacity lithium-ion batteries has led to a shift to cordless types that are compact, light, easy to carry, and easy to work with, not only for household use but also for professional use, such as hammer drills, impact wrenches, nailers, staplers, and round saws. The capability of cordless power tools to operate for longer time periods with a single charge is one of the major qualities for users when choosing products. Toshiba's lineup of MOSFET, motor control drivers, photocouplers, and other products that use current technologies helps designers make efficient use of limited battery capacities.Key Benefits
- Wide portfolio of products
- Keeping on-resistance low to produce minimal heat
- Increasing heat dissipation capabilities with efficient packaging
- Optical coupling over an isolated barrier
- Application notes, reference designs, and other materials to help with the design
- Aiding in current protection standards (IEC-62368-1 and others) with eFuse IC and Photocouplers
3-Phase Brushless Motor Drive
Three-phase brushless motors with inverter control can be easily driven using a dedicated Toshiba TC78B016FTG motor driver. Large-capacity brushless motors can also be driven using a Toshiba TB6634FNG external driver-type motor-controlled driver. Toshiba's MOSFETs TPWR8004PL and TPHR8504PL, with low on-resistance and high heat dissipation efficiency, can be used as drivers. In addition, using small package products makes it easier to reduce the board area without sacrificing power.
Operational Amplifiers like the Toshiba TC75S67TU are useful for current monitoring circuits for the system power supply and detecting abnormalities in the equipment. Op-amps are also great for battery protection circuits when combined with temperature sensors. In addition, Toshiba's LDO family and TAR5SB are useful for the system power supply as these devices reduce noise generated by the motor drive section, allowing a stable system to be configured.

Brush Motor Drive
Bipolar transistors (NPN/PNP) TMBT3906 and 2SC4116 can be used to configure MOSFET drivers for a brush-motor drive. Using low-on-resistance, high-heat-dissipation products for MOSFET drivers causes low heat generation and low power dissipation. On the other hand, high breakdown characteristics are also required when considering the counter-electromotive forces in the motor. Therefore, suitable products such as Toshiba TPWR8004PL and TPHR8504PL should be selected for each application. In addition, the use of small-package products makes it possible to reduce the board area.

Battery Charging
Since MOSFETs used in the PFC circuit of an AC-DC power supply require high breakdown voltage and low on-resistance, selecting a MOSFET that meets both requirements is essential. Toshiba offers the TK17A80W and a wide variety of other MOSFETs in small and large packages.
In voltage-feedback circuits, a photocoupler like the TLP385 achieves signal transmission over electrical isolation on the primary and secondary sides.
Protection is crucial in any power supply circuit. The Toshiba TCKE8xx Series eFuse IC is designed for battery power supply lines where unexpected surges may occur. An eFuse IC improves overall system quality and reliability.
