Vishay / Dale Isolated Current Sensing Reference Design

Vishay / Dale Isolated Current Sensing Reference Design focuses on the current sensing solutions found in high-voltage applications, in which an isolated current sensing circuit is essential. The measured current passes through a shunt resistor with a low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR), and, in this application, the WSBE and WSL resistors are explored. The voltage drop across the shunt resistance is delivered to a high-performance, differential-output isolated amplifier, the VIA0050DD in this example. The VIA0050DD from Vishay / Dale features a linear differential range of ±50mV, and the differential output voltage between OUTP and OUTN is ±2.05V. The differential output is converted to a single-ended output, providing a range of 0 to 2.5V (OUT to GND), which is then ready to be interfaced with a single-ended analog-to-digital converter (ADC) or multimeter.

Features

  • AC current measurement up to 1415A
  • Maximum working isolation voltage of 1200VRMS
  • Isolated single-ended analog output
  • Low temperature offset and GAIN drift
  • Bandwidth of approximately 280kHz

Applications

  • Motor control
  • Power supplies
  • Battery monitoring systems
  • Charging stations
  • EV powertrains
