Texas Instruments MCF8316D Sensorless FOC BLDC Drivers
Texas Instruments MCF8316D Sensorless Field Oriented Control (FOC) Brushless-DC (BLDC) Drivers are single-chip devices for users driving speed-controlled 12V to 24V BLDC motors. These drivers integrate three half-bridges with 40V absolute maximum capability and a very low RDS(ON) of 95mΩ (high-side + low-side FETs). The MCF8316D drivers integrate power management circuits such as a voltage-adjustable buck regulator and a Low-Dropout (LDO) regulator that can be used to power external circuits. These drivers feature 8A peak high output current capability, 3% speed loop accuracy with an internal clock, and a dedicated DRVOFF pin to disable (Hi-Z) outputs. The MCF8316D drivers are used in applications such as small home appliances, dishwasher pumps, BLDC motor modules, and air purifiers. The FOC algorithm is implemented in a fixed-function state machine, so no coding is required. The algorithm configuration is stored in non-volatile EEPROM, which allows the driver to function in stand-alone mode once the driver is configured. The MCF8316D drivers receive the speed command through an analog voltage, PWM input, frequency input, or I2C command.
