STMicroelectronics STLUX Digital LED Lighting Drivers

STMicroelectronics STLUX™ Digital LED Lighting Drivers are tailored for lighting and power conversion. The STLUX series integrates a digital addressable lighting interface (DALI) for remote control and monitoring and has been successfully integrated into a wide range of architectures and applications. STMicroelectronics STLUX programmable controllers are specifically optimized for lighting applications. The innovative state-machine, event-driven (SMED) digital technology and integrated microcontroller make the STLUX series easily programmable and versatile. The controllers can be configured with application-specific algorithms to optimize the overall system efficiency, enabling high-performance and cost-effective lighting design.

SMED

SMED is a hardware state machine triggered by internal or external events. In power-supply applications, for example, a SMED can close the regulation loop and automatically switch off the circuit when it detects an overcurrent or a short circuit, protecting the circuit. Because the SMED is embedded, they guarantee an event reaction time shorter than that provided by standard interrupt-driven microprocessors.

Development Tool

The STEVAL-ILL075V1 Evaluation Board is designed to help familiarize the user with the STLUX family of digital controllers and SMED architecture. A convenient GUI enables the user to quickly generate the optimal SMED configuration for the application. The external pins make it easy to inject SMED events and capture the SMED-controlled PWM clock, helping the user to validate the SMED configuration. Alternatively, the application circuit can be driven directly from the evaluation board.
